Karthik is a quiet, good-natured boy who enjoys playing chess. He is also a good singer and artist. Karthik has one younger sister, Sandhya. His mother, Veeramma, is chronically ill but does her best to take care of the family. His father, Kotaswara Rao, is a coolie and works hard at the odd jobs he can find. Karthik is very responsible in his duties and very respectful to others, especially his elders.
