Suma is the second of three girls. Her older sister is Soundharya and her younger is Nishitha. Their parents, Manikya Rao and Shalini, are both casual laborers who work in the nearby fields during the growing and harvesting seasons. Both also have health issues and their income is very minimal. Suma enjoys reading and studying, as well as running.
